R.J. Mackool, M.D.
Dr. RJ Mackool is the Assistant Director of the Mackool Eye Institute and Laser Center. He not only has extensive experience in cataract, implant, glaucoma, and corneal surgery, but he has also completed training in general surgery, plastic surgery, and craniofacial surgery prior to ophthalmology training at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai.
He was one of the first surgeons in the world to perform femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery; recognized as an international expert on this subject, he has demonstrated the technique to thousands of eye surgeons via satellite.
Dr. Mackool has designed microsurgical instruments and reported new techniques that are currently used for modern cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation, and he has several medical patents pending for devices that improve the accuracy and safety of these procedures.
He has performed thousands of cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgical procedures.
Dr. RJ Mackool has repeatedly been named as an outstanding doctor in the New York metro area by Superdoctors.com. He is an attending surgeon at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai and NYU Medical Center, as well as a board-certified member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
